elena can say her vowels now, but she can also say “i don’t like it” which she says when me and amy are watching a movie that isn’t animated.

last week we had to say goodbye to amy’s mom Joyce as she ended her visit here and returned to the states.  it was so good to have her here.  next month we are having some of joe’s family come for a visit.  i wouldn’t have guessed we’d be having mini family reunions in azerbaijan.

company

it has been an incredible week as we welcomed two guests into our apartment.  joe’s friend erik visited for a few days from turkey and amy’s mom is visiting for a few more days from ohio.  it’s always a big deal to have company, but to have company from another country is pretty special.  while we like azerbaijan, we realize that it is not a natural tourist destination for most.  we especially value time and contact with our families now, so to have family with us has been a huge gift!
